S.M.A.W. – CWB / TSSA Preparatory Course

Course Objective:

This program is designed for skilled trades persons, technicians, apprentices and others in the industry who have completed Level 1 or 2, or have on the job welding experience or previous welding tickets. This course will teach trainees the proper techniques and theory based knowledge of essential variables in regards to welding certification including Joint Design, Thickness Range, Positions Qualified, Base Metals, Electrode Qualified, etc. At the conclusion of this course trainees will demonstrate new and or improved skills using the S.M.A.W. (Stick) process , preparing them for CWB, TSSA, or AWS Certification.

Course Content:

Health and Safety for arc welding. CSA W47.1 (CWB), ASME IX (TSSA), or AWS code explanation of essential variable for welder testing such as thickness range – electrodes and welding processes covered. SMAW (Stick) Practical
  • Welding techniques on various joints and out of position welding. Flat, Horizontal, Vertical, Overhead.
  • Interpass cleaning techniques.
  • Bead sequence for testing.
  • How to avoid welding faults
