MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT

Description: This diploma is a 19-week program delivered in-class. Diploma admissions are on a rolling basis.

The diploma will prepare individuals for a career in Medical Records and Health Information Administration. Medical Records and Health Information Administration careers are projected to be one of the fastest growing occupations.

Employment opportunities exist in hospitals, physician's offices, clinics, nursing homes, and home health agencies. This program develops skills in medical office procedures, anatomy and terminology (basic and advanced), OHIP medical billing as well as customer service, computer applications and office administration skills.

Arrow Schedule and confirm medical appointments and receive and communicate messages for medical staff and patients
Arrow Prepare, key in, edit, and proofread medical records, reports, articles, case histories and correspondence from machine dictation, shorthand and handwritten notes using computers
Arrow Interview patients in order to complete forms, documents and case histories
Arrow Initiate and maintain confidential medical files and records
Arrow Order supplies and maintain inventory
Arrow Determine and establish office procedures and routines
Arrow May supervise and train other staff in procedures and in use of current software.
