Certified Intra Oral Dental Assistant Level 1 & 2 Diploma

Program of Study:

The Intra-Oral Dental Assistant Level I & II program at CADH is a 42-week diploma program comprised of full-time (25.5 hours/week), classroom, clinical and laboratory instruction. The program is offered in the mornings (8am-1pm). Please note: Class times may be altered. Dental digital imaging; a modern dental laboratory and dispensary; a library resource center complete with WiFi accessibility; a lounge area; computer work stations with on-site digital references further complement CADH’s state of the art facility. The CADH clinic houses 22 fully equipped and digitized radiographic dental operatories providing its students with an unparalleled opportunity for superior training in this discipline. Students in the program receive experience in the providing of dental care, safety protocols,infection control and the management of client records. CADH is approved by the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act (HARP) and upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to expose, process and mount not only conventional radiographs, but also due to the implementation of digital radiography centers at each operatory, CADH students will also be trained in digital radiography. Additionally, students attending CADH will have the added benefit of studying collaboratively with dental hygiene students as CADH has the largest dental hygiene training facility in Peel region. Important to note is that students are responsible for providing their own clients for the clinical component of the program. CADH will provide assistance if required. The program prepares the student to become a Certified Dental Assistant. The successful graduate is eligible and may apply for certification with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association (ODAA) following successful completion of the National Dental Assistants Board Examination (NDABE). Successful completion on the examination is necessary to be eligible to work as a Level I or Level II Intra Oral Dental Assistant in Ontario. Graduates have a broad range of employment options including,but not limited to, private practice, public health services, hospitals as well as opportunities in dental education and dental sales.

Professionalism, Ethics and Jurisprudence Infection Control in Dentistry Oral Facial Sciences (oral anatomy, dentitions, tooth numbering systems, charting symbols) Computer Essentials Dental Practice Management Employment and Career Management Dental Sciences Patient Information and Assessment Communications: Psychology; dealing with Clients with Special Needs Oral Health Management Dental Radiography (Digital and Conventional) Safety and Emergency measures (oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodonics,orthodonics, CPR and First Aid training (see note below) Pharmacology, Anesthesia and Pain control Clinical Dentistry Intra-Oral Skills External Work Placement Note: Students will require current standard first aid certification and current certification as a basic resquer in CPR (Level C). CADH can assist students to acquire this certification.
