Health Care and Social Services Bursary

Official Guidelines Updated: May 2026

Updated for 2026–27:

The Yukon Health Care and Social Services Bursary now covers health care and social services fields — including nursing, medicine, social work and allied health professionals — in one consolidated program. Applications for 2026–27 are submitted through the Student Financial Assistance Portal. Intake opens June 16, 2026 — deadline August 31, 2026.

The Yukon Health Care and Social Services Bursary supports Yukon students pursuing post-secondary education in health care and social services fields. The intent of the program is for recipients to return to the Yukon after graduating to work as doctors, nurses, social workers, allied health professionals, and in other roles that are difficult to fill in the territory’s health care and social services system.

The number of students supported each year varies based on eligible applications and available funding. New applicants must create an account on the Student Financial Assistance Portal to submit their funding request. Students already approved for multi-year funding under a prior Yukon health care bursary will need to upload supporting documentation to the Student Financial Assistance Portal as well. They will continue receiving funding as long as they meet the requirements set in their award letter.

Award Amounts by Field of Study

Field of Study Number of New Awards Award Amount
Health care or social services (other) Minimum of 4 new students Up to $5,000 (based on program of study)
Nursing Maximum 6 new students $2,500 to $5,000 (based on program of study)
Medicine — medical school Maximum 4 new students combined across both medical school and residency $5,000
Medicine — medical residency $7,500

Funding amounts for health care and social services fields vary by program type and level of study. High-demand fields currently include medicine, nursing, speech language pathology, pharmacy, social work, audiology, dental hygiene, and other health and social services professions.
