FANS Undergraduate Scholarship

Official Guidelines Updated: March 2026

Key Facts for 2025–2026:

The FANS Undergraduate Scholarship awards $750 per year for an “A” average in any undergraduate degree year. In your final undergraduate year, if you are continuing to a Master’s degree, the award increases to $1,000. You must be currently receiving FANS support, and scholarships are paid in the fall term following the qualifying year.

The FANS Undergraduate Scholarship rewards academic excellence at the post-secondary level. Awarded annually to eligible FANS recipients who achieve strong grades, it recognizes consistent academic achievement across each year of an undergraduate degree. High achievers continuing into graduate studies receive an enhanced award in their final undergraduate year.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the FANS Undergraduate Scholarship, you must:

  • Be currently receiving FANS support as a full-time student.
  • Have received an “A” average in the relevant undergraduate degree year. Students who are eligible for the Nunavut Supplementary Grant (Nunavut Inuit beneficiaries) must receive a minimum “B” average to qualify.
  • Be a Nunavut resident for the period of study in which the scholarship applies.
  • Submit official transcripts to the FANS office for assessment.

Award Amounts by Study Level

Study Level Situation Scholarship Amount
Undergraduate (any year) “A” average $750 per year
Final undergraduate year “A” average, continuing to Master’s $1,000 (instead of $750)

The scholarship ladder continues at the graduate level. If you go on to a Master’s degree, you may be eligible for $1,000/year (rising to $1,500 in your final Master’s year if continuing to a Doctoral degree). Doctoral students may receive $1,500/year. These graduate-level scholarships follow the same structure — active FANS support required, “A” average required, “B” for beneficiary students — and are awarded in the fall following the qualifying year.

How to Claim Your Scholarship:

Submit your official transcripts to the FANS office each year for assessment. Scholarships are awarded by direct deposit in the fall term following the academic year in which you qualified — they are not paid during the qualifying year itself. You must be an active FANS recipient at the time of payment. Contact FANS at fans@gov.nu.ca or 1-877-860-0680 with any questions.

Other FANS Scholarships

If you graduated from a Nunavut secondary school with 80% or higher, you may also have been eligible for the FANS Grade 12 Scholarship ($500) upon entering post-secondary studies.

Other Financial Aid Options

In addition to FANS scholarships, undergraduate students may access a full range of FANS benefits including Primary Universal Benefits (tuition, books, travel), Secondary Universal Benefits (monthly living allowance), and loan support depending on your student category.
