Yukon Funding

Official Guidelines Updated: March 2026

Important Update for 2025–2026:

The Yukon Grant has been updated to $185 per week of study for 2025–2026 — up from previous years. Grant amounts are adjusted annually for inflation. Yukon also participates in the federal Canada Student Loans and Grants system, meaning eligible students can access both territorial and federal funding through the Yukon Student Financial Assistance office.

Yukon offers a well-rounded student financial assistance system for territory residents pursuing post-secondary education anywhere in Canada or abroad at a recognized institution. Unlike some other territories, Yukon participates in the federal Canada Student Loans and Grants program — meaning eligible students can access both Yukon territorial funding and federal funding through a single office.

Key programs include the Yukon Grant, the Student Training Allowance, and a range of bursaries for students in healthcare, social services, and early childhood education. Scholarships are also available for students entering vocational, technical, visual arts, and other programs.

Let’s get into the details of Yukon’s territorial funding programs.

What Kind of Funding Is Available?

  • Territorial grants — the Yukon Grant and Student Training Allowance, both non-repayable for eligible students
  • Federal loans and grants — Canada Student Loans and Grants assessed through the Yukon Student Financial Assistance office
  • Bursaries for students in healthcare, social services, nursing, and early childhood education
  • Scholarships for students entering vocational, technical, visual arts, and other programs after Grade 12

Applications are submitted through the Yukon Student Financial Assistance portal. You can apply for funding up to four months before your program starts.

Pro Tip:

Yukon territorial grant amounts are adjusted for inflation every year. Always check the current year’s rates at yukon.ca before applying — the amounts listed on older resources may be out of date.

Who Can Apply?

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
  • Have attended schooling in Yukon for a minimum of two years, or have lived in Yukon for at least two years before enrolling
  • Be enrolled in a full-time program at a recognized post-secondary institution anywhere in Canada or abroad
  • Not be receiving student financial assistance from another province or territory

Federal Funding Through Yukon Student Aid

Unlike the NWT and Nunavut, Yukon participates in the federal Canada Student Loans and Grants program. Full-time and part-time Yukon students can apply for federal student aid through the Yukon Student Financial Assistance office — the same place you apply for territorial grants.

This means Yukon residents may be eligible for Canada Student Grants and Canada Student Loans alongside their territorial funding. See the federal pages for full program details.

Yukon Scholarships

The Yukon government also offers several entry scholarships for Grade 12 graduates entering post-secondary programs. These are applied for through the same Yukon Student Financial Assistance application. Amounts are adjusted annually for inflation — contact the Student Financial Assistance office for current figures.

  • Scholarship for a Student Who Is a Parent — for Yukon resident teen parents transitioning from high school directly into a post-secondary program
  • Scholarship for Trade or Technical Studies — for Grade 12 graduates from Yukon high schools enrolling in a vocational or technical program
  • Visual Arts Scholarship — for students enrolling in a visual arts program at a recognized institution immediately after completing high school in the Yukon

Additional scholarships and bursaries from external organizations are also available through the Yukon government’s scholarship listings.

Pro Tip:

Most Yukon bursaries have a June 30 application deadline. If you are planning to start a healthcare, nursing, or early childhood education program in the fall, mark that date early — these are competitive programs with a limited number of awards available each year.
