About the Program

The Web & Development Fundamentals diploma program builds the essential skills needed to advance into any development pathway in the booming software industry. In 42 weeks plus an 8-week internship, you'll complete hands-on projects that mirror industry processes, prepare for industry-recognized certification exams, and gain invaluable real-world experience applying your skills in a professional setting through a 160-hour internship at organizations providing web and application development services.

This comprehensive program develops industry-level problem-solving and development skills using the latest tools, frameworks, UI/UX design principles, and agile software development processes with live, instructor-led online sessions. Eastern College provides bursaries, financial assistance, and one-on-one job placement support to help you succeed from enrollment through employment. You'll explore graphic design using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, create engaging websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WordPress, program in Java and Swift with real-world mobile development applications, and learn how to leverage AI and online tools to streamline tasks—skills that set you apart in today's fast-moving tech landscape.

AI-Powered Development Skills

Learn to leverage AI tools and advanced search engines throughout your training—generating graphical art, JavaScript stub code, and UI/UX design prototypes while mastering GitHub Copilot AI for code versioning and collaboration like industry professionals.

What You'll Learn

  • Graphic and UI/UX design foundations - Create and modify graphical art using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for bitmap-based and vector-based formats, generate art using AI tools, design user interfaces for web and mobile apps to maximize usability and user experience, and leverage AI tools to simplify design prototypes
  • Core web development technologies - Build websites using HTML5 and CSS3 for standardized layouts, enhance functionality with JavaScript while leveraging AI-generated stub code, configure Apache web servers on Linux operating systems, and host websites plus WordPress content management systems in the cloud
  • Object-oriented programming and version control - Master Swift programming language expressions, collections, types, enumerations, protocols, and generics; apply object-oriented concepts to Java for graphical and web-based applications; explore agile development and project management techniques; leverage Git, GitHub, and GitHub Copilot AI for collaboration
  • Real-world internship and career preparation - Complete 160-hour internship at organizations providing web and application development services, develop comprehensive résumé and LinkedIn profile, master job search strategies and interview processes, work with employers including JD Irving, Spandrel, Cyber Security Canada, Michelin, RCMP, and Government of Canada
