Helping Canadians get back to work.

Security License Course

Are you interested in a security license? Canada’s security industry is booming. In Ontario alone there are about 70,000 currently licensed practitioners. That’s more than public police officers in all of Canada.

Opportunities for career growth and advancement for qualified professionals with a security license has never been as great as they are today, in Ontario and right across Canada.  From uniformed guards to special events security; retail loss prevention to corporate services, employment opportunities within the private security industry continue to grow daily. And the first step to employment is qualifying for a security license.

In Ontario, a security license is issued by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS) under the authority of the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 (PSISA). The first step to licensing is successful completion of the basic security license preparation course with CSPIS. This course targets Ministry-identified competencies and provides the foundation for success.

Once basic training is completed, applicants will complete a professional examination to qualify for licensing.

Basic Security Training Details

Basic security training consists of an intensive 40 hour program which  is both stimulating and challenging, helping students go from learning to earning quickly.

The course runs over 5 days, from Monday to Friday, each day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. During this information-packed week, students will complete mandatory subjects, including emergency first aid certification.

This course provides an immersion into the day-to-day challenges faced by competent security practitioners.  Participants will develop an understanding of their future role and function, along with the laws, regulations and authorities under which they will perform their duties.

Live and Interactive Training

At CSPIS, we strongly believe  relevant career preparation skills are best taught in a live, interactive setting where students learn from experienced trainers. Participants should be assessed and guided as they begin to establish the foundation for a professional career. That’s why all our training is done in class, with a low student to teacher ratio. Our goal is to help every participant reach his or her own best potential.

Our basic security guard license training covers all Ministry required components in a challenging, yet easy-to-follow format. Our training is laid out in a logical, relevant manner designed to allow every student to achieve or exceed Ministry standards gaining confidence and employment- readiness skills. Our instructors help bring the material to life, allowing students to understand their role and responsibility as law enforcement professionals.
