  Our Business Diploma with Marketing Specialization aims to prepare you for various careers in business and management by providing practical skills and knowledge.   Medical Office Assistants perform a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other healthcare practitioners running smoothly. Typical job duties include measuring vital signs, preparing patients for physical exams, assisting pediatricians with children, preparing surgical trays, performing billing and bookkeeping, working with patient charts and data, and arranging for hospital admission and laboratory services.

  About the Program

  Early Childhood Education is an extremely rewarding profession. There is a great demand across British Columbia for qualified and dedicated Early Childhood Educators that can provide superior care and education for children from birth to school age.

  The first five years of a child’s life are the most formative and highly important to their development. The needs of preschool children have become a top priority. As an Early Childhood Educator, you will fill a meaningful and fulfilling role in society. Your job prospects after completing this program are excellent, as over 98 percent of Stenberg Early Childhood Education program graduates find employment within six months of program completion in daycare, preschools, nursery schools, special needs centres, public schools, and infant/toddler centres.

• Early Childhood Education Post-Basic

  About the Program

  Stenberg College offers the Post-Basic Infant Toddler and Special Needs Early Childhood Educator Program (Dual Diploma) to those who have already completed an Early Childhood Education Basic (Certificate) level program. The ECE Post-Basic program is 29 weeks and full time.

  With the Infant/Toddler post-basic specialization, graduates are qualified for employment in childcare facilities caring for infants and toddlers (up to three years old). With the post-basic education in Special Needs, graduates work in programs with children who require extra support, from infancy to school age. Post-basic graduates are also prepared to handle a wider range of administrative and supervisory responsibilities.

  Combined Delivery

  We offer the Early Childhood Education Post-Basic program in a combined delivery format. In this format, all courses (with the exception of the practicum) are offered through guided online learning combined with weekly classroom-based sessions. This flexible delivery format is designed for individuals who may be balancing other responsibilities such as work and/or family. In the Post-Basic Infant Toddler and Special Needs program you will complete orientation followed by six theory courses in a combined online and classroom-based delivery format followed by a six-week Infant Toddler Practicum. This will then be followed by two more theory courses delivered in a combined delivery format, followed by a final six-week Special Needs Practicum experience.

There are few things in life as rewarding as helping individuals with exceptionalities reach their full potential. Education Assistants assist elementary and secondary school teachers by supporting students who many require specialized needs instruction. Stenberg’s Education Assistant graduates are in high demand by school districts throughout British Columbia. The program is offered in a classroom or online-based format, allowing you to choose the delivery method that best suits your learning style, lifestyle and schedule. Please note that the job title “Education Assistant” is growing in use and is replacing “Special Education Assistant”. The title “Teacher Assistant” is being used less as time goes on.

• Cardiology Technologist

  About the Program

  Interested in a career that combines cardiology and technology? Stenberg’s Cardiology Technologist Diploma Program prepares graduates to work in hospital and clinical settings, conducting a wide variety of diagnostic procedures including ECG, Stress Tests, Holter Monitoring, and Event Monitoring.

  Our program is recognized by the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists (CSCT). Stenberg graduates are prepared for employment immediately after graduating, or may choose to continue their education and pursue a Bachelor of Health Sciences.

• Medical Laboratory Assistant

  About the Program

  Medical Laboratory Assistants are multitasking geniuses. They are responsible for a wide variety of tasks including blood collection (phlebotomy). Moreover, Medical Laboratory Assistants can perform electrocardiograms (ECGs), collect other samples, prepare specimens for testing, data entry, and fulfill other basic preanalytical procedures. In short, they are integral members of the health care team who contribute to effective patient care. If you are able to multi-task, have good communication skills and an interest in working in a laboratory or hospital setting, consider a career as a Medical Laboratory Assistant.   Stenberg College’s Medical Laboratory Assistant Diploma program is offered in-class and online. Our online module is offered once a year in Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver.   Stenberg’s Optician Diploma program has been organized to ensure graduates gain skills in key areas valued within the field. Through theory and lab courses, students gain a comprehensive education in the areas of eyeglass dispensing, contact lens fitting and automated refraction. Emphasis is placed on interpersonal communication, customer service and professional practice. This program prepares students to successfully complete the National Licensing Exam.

  About the Program

  Pharmacy Technicians are a critical part of the health care team. They work closely with Pharmacists and ensure that the highest standards of quality and accuracy are met in the compounding and dispensing of prescription medications. Their scope of practice includes receiving and transcribing verbal prescriptions, transferring prescriptions, and performing final checks.

  Stenberg’s Pharmacy Technician program is designed to prepare students for Pharmacy Technician positions in community or hospital pharmacies. Hands-on skills are developed in the lab setting and clinical competencies are mastered at affiliated clinical partner sites (hospitals and community pharmacies). It’s Stenberg College’s mission to offer an exceptional career-oriented Pharmacy Technician Program with a goal to prepare graduates who:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge base, skills, and attitudes consistent with industry expectations for entry-level employment. Graduates will be able to meet competency requirements set out by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA).
  • Successfully complete the regulated licensing exams and Structured Practical Training (SPT) required to become a Regulated Pharmacy Technician and qualify for registration with the College of Pharmacists in their province within 12 months of program completion.

  About the Program

  Are you looking for a rewarding career in hospital administration? As a Hospital Support Specialist, you will be trained to provide valuable clerical, secretarial, and administrative support in public and private health care settings. Hospital Support Specialist graduates can hold a variety of job titles, but typical duties can include the admitting and registration of patients into various departments and/or hospital units, billing, collecting patient data, data entry, clerical tasks, and retrieving, assembling, and disassembling patients’ charts.

  Stenberg College is the only private post-secondary school in BC offering this unique industry-specific program specializing in administrative duties within the health care field. Hospital Support Specialist students receive training in medical terminology, professional communications, office operations, keyboarding/data entry, registration, diagnostic imaging, the release of information, health records clerical duties, Meditech, and other computerized health information systems as applicable. This program will prepare graduates for entry-level employment as an Admitting/Registration Clerk, Health Records Clerk, Diagnostic Imaging Clerk, Hospital Switchboard Operator, Medical Secretary, and much more.

• Nursing Unit Clerk

  About the Program

  Are you organized, detail-oriented and professional? If this sounds like you, consider a career as a Nursing Unit Clerk. Nursing Unit Clerks act as the heart of a health care unit by maintaining the pulse. They direct resources, communicate with patients, nurses and doctors, and ensure urgent tasks are completed efficiently. A Nursing Unit Clerk must be able to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, and possess strong communication skills.

  Nursing Unit Clerks are the anchors of patient care departments. They focus on the non-clinical tasks of the department, and deliver and communicate physician’s orders with nursing staff and the other departments (laboratory, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, dietary, and therapy). Depending on the health care environment, Nursing Unit Clerks may also be referred to as Nursing Unit Coordinators, Nursing Unit Assistants or Health Unit Coordinators.

• Health Care Assistant International

  About the Program

  As a Health Care Assistant, you provide support to elderly individuals and help them maintain a level of independence while easing their pain and improving their quality of life. Graduates are prepared to work in Extended and Intermediate Care Facilities, Home Support Agencies, Adult Day Care, and Assisted Living residences.   Stenberg’s Health Care Assistant – International Program is designed to provide students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to function effectively as front-line caregivers, and respected members of the healthcare team, in both community and facility settings. Students complete 3 months of English language studies (ELS100) prior to beginning the provincial Health Care Assistant (HCA) Program. Students then take English language studies (ELS200) on an ongoing basis throughout the program to continue improving their speaking and listening skills.

  Becoming a nurse in Canada requires internationally educated nurses (IENs) to navigate through many different processes and regulatory bodies. The outcome is certainly worth the effort, but the steps can become complicated and at times, overwhelming. This is why we developed the Post-Graduate Diploma in Canadian Nursing – to help guide you through the processes and prepare you to meet the entry-level competencies required by the various nursing regulatory bodies! The Post-Graduate Diploma in Canadian Nursing with Co-op prepares internationally educated nurses with the knowledge, skills, and requisites to practice safe, ethical and competent care in the Canadian health care setting. To transition IENs into the Canadian health care setting as quickly as possible, the first 19 weeks of the program prepares you to register and work as a Health Care Assistant. Your paid, 10-week Cooperative Work Experience sets you up for success. This program respects the education and experience of IENs but also recognizes the challenges IENs face. The program will support you in meeting the competency requirements for registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in British Columbia, including knowledge-based and collaborative practice, accountability, ethical behaviour and therapeutic relationships. Importantly, your classes, labs and clinical experiences will give you the knowledge, experience and confidence to complete registration assessments and examinations. Competency-based counsellors are an important part of British Columbia’s mosaic of mental health professionals. Our Counselling Therapist program is built on a foundation of evidence-based practice, reflective practice, and ethical practice.
