This program includes a practicum placement. This experience within a workplace enables Instructional staff to observe the student in a practice situation while providing the student with the opportunity to gain direct exposure to the chosen career field.
The occupational objective of this program is to prepare the student to gain employment in: hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, public health care agencies and long-term care facilities. In the workplace, they will perform non-clinical tasks usually under the supervision of nursing staff and provide the link between patients, physicians, nursing staff and other departments. Job duties and environments vary by place of employment. Some Hospital Unit Clerks are employed part-time or work evening or weekend shifts.
The job outlook for qualified unit clerks is very good due to advances in medical technology. According to the Health Careers Center, job opportunities are expected to be plentiful for health unit clerks, with growth mirroring that of all health care professions.

These requirements are:Medical Office Administrators perform a variety of administrative duties in doctors’ offices, hospitals, medical clinics and other medical settings as well as support of managers and professional employers. Graduates will be skilled in receptionist duties such as greeting and checking in patients; managing and coordinating the scheduling of appointments; compiling patients’ charts; transcribing physicians’ orders; preparing birth and/or death certificates; recording vital signs; ordering hospital supplies; completing the admission, preoperative, and postoperative procedures. CPR, First Aid and WHMIS will be completed during the program.
A typing speed of 50-65 words per minute may also be required for employment. Changes in technology, such as the increasing use of electronic medical records (EMR), means these workers must be comfortable adapting to new software programs. Some employers may require specialized training in EMR systems.

Community and social service workers administer and implement a variety of social assistance programs and community services including life skills workshops, substance abuse treatment programs, support programs, and more. A career in this field involves working with vulnerable groups including homeless persons, children with special needs, Indigenous peoples, pregnant teenagers, and people with substance abuse problems and addictions.
Our Community Support Worker – Social Services diploma program equips students with the skills and competence needed for a challenging but rewarding career in this field. Graduates will be trained to help clients manage personal and social complications through one-on-one and group support. Graduates will also be trained to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment programs by tracking clients’ behavioural changes and responses to interventions.
This program includes two practicum placements so students can gain relevant work experience before graduation.

Veterinary Assistants (VA) care for animals under the supervision of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Animal Health Technologist (AHT). They perform a multitude of tasks including: feeding, medicating and prepping of patients as well as restraining them during examinations, procedures and treatments.
The Veterinary Assistant diploma program equips students with the technical knowledge and hands-on skills to provide an extensive range of animal care services for both the office and clinical settings of either general practice (GP), emergency (ER), and specialty veterinary hospitals. Additional employment opportunities for graduates include but are not limited to: animal rehabilitation, animal control centers, research facilities and pharmaceutical representatives.
Throughout the program, students will receive specialized training in eight key areas: animal restrain, nutrition, pharmacology, clinical nursing, human relations, administration, diseases, and prevention.
This program includes field day labs in addition to a practicum placement so students can gain relevant hands-on training and practical experience before graduation.
