Healthcare, Wellness, Pharma Programs

  • Through our SE Career College of Health, we offer the Enhanced HCA/PSW Blended Delivery Program, a professional development course that has been specifically designed for certified Health Care Aides/Personal Support Workers employed in First Nation communities. The Enhanced PSW/HCA Certificate Program model is a 5 week blended delivery program that includes 2 weeks of in person training and 3 weeks of on-line learning. It is provided to existing certified PSW/HCAs as an enhancement to their core Certificate training. The in person weeks focus on Palliative Care, Managing Clients with Cognitive and Mental Health Challenges, Caring for Medically Complex Children, Ethics and Leadership in healthcare, Mental Health skills and clinical skills refreshers (hands on training). On the final day of the program participants complete a final theoretical review and practical exam to demonstrate knowledge transfer and skills development from participation in the refresher program. Participants who successfully complete the program are issued an HCA/PSW Enhanced Program Certificate and certificates in Palliative Care, Caring for Children with Medical Complexity, and Person and Family Centered Care from our Health Career College.
  • First Nation communities across Canada are seeking education that is relevant, accessible, and culturally safe, in order to meet significant health human resource shortages for Personal Support Workers (PSWs). Through our SE Career College of Health, we offer the Personal Support Worker (PSW) Diploma Blended Delivery (BD) Program. This program has been developed to support students who wish to minimize the time required to leave community and family to complete PSW training. The program offers the best of face to face and virtual (online) education training. Students in the PSW BD program will learn through a combination of in person sessions, modules done at home and weekly Virtual Gatherings done through virtual technologies. Virtual technologies can include tele health and/or computer based meeting programs. Upon completion of the program, graduates will receive an SE Career College of Health Diploma and will be prepared to work in a variety of practice settings including home support, assisted living, residential/complex care, special care units, other home and community care settings and acute care.

  • This comprehensive course offers standard first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The course will teach the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular and other emergencies for adults, children and infants. All classes provide training on the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). This course is appropriate for those who need training for work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. This course covers a variety of topics from basic (circulation and breathing emergencies, and prevention of disease transmission) to in-depth (sudden medical emergencies and injuries to the head and/or spine). CPR level C or HCP is available. Offering full certification classes (2 days) and re-certification classes (1 day).
  • WHAT

    This virtual study group will guide and support health professionals in understanding the core competencies for Diabetes Educators identified by the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board. This Study Group is intended to support health professionals with previous knowledge and experience in diabetes education who are preparing to write/consider writing the CDECB national exam to obtain CDE certification. Weekly sessions will be held over a 17-week period using a combination of webinar technology and online learning management system. Live weekly webinars will be offered on a set day and time every week. Webinars will also be recorded, archived and made available for on-demand viewing. The online learning management system will be accessible 24/7 for the duration of the study group. As this is a national study group designed for working professionals, it is not a mandatory requirement to participate in the “live” webinars in order to participate in the study group.     WHEN

    Sessions will be held using webinar and teleconference technology. Sessions start January 28, 2020, 6:00 – 7:00 EST and continue, every Tuesday, for 17 weeks, ending May 19, 2020.

Participants are provided access to a supplemental online Diabetes Care “fundamentals” self-study module at no additional cost. We have a history of experience and success, supporting hundreds of interprofessional participants from coast-to-coast over the past 9 years to achieve an overall 91% CDECB exam success rate* (*exam success rate determined based on cumulative average of post study-group evaluation voluntary self-reported exam success rates between 2011-2019) 92% of past participants would recommend this study group to their peers.
  • These courses will guide Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to a better understanding of how to apply principles of palliative and end-of-life care to clients and their families experiencing life-threatening illness with an integrative approach, from diagnosis to the last hours of life and through to death, grief and bereavement. The student will learn how to provide care that is culturally relevant and honours the choices, traditions, and values of the dying person and their family. The course is appropriate for PSWs or Unregulated care providers (UCPs) practicing in community, homecare, long-term care homes, retirement homes, hospices and other community settings. The course will be provided through ten (10), three (3) hour classes, delivered in-person, with an integrative lab component for hands-on learning. Total course length is twenty-four (24) hours of theory with six (6) hours of lab.
