Business, Accounting, Marketing Programs

  • The Computerized Accounting, Tax and Payroll Administration Diploma will equip students to become an accounting clerk who can calculate, prepare and process bills, invoices, accounts payable and receivable, budgets and other financial records according to established procedures. Students will learn basic accounting concepts, and focus on various aspects of accounting principles and theory. Students will also apply their knowledge using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Simply Accounting I & II, post entries, and prepare financial documents and financial reports. Students will learn to work on Personal Income Tax, Small Business Taxes and Corporate Taxes, and prepare tax returns according to the Canada Revenue Agency.  

    Career Responsibilities

    Students who complete the Computerized Accounting, Tax and Payroll program will have acquired the following knowledge, skills and responsibilities:
    • Calculate, prepare and issue documents related to accounts such as bills, invoices, inventory reports, account statements and other financial statements using computerized and manual systems.
    • Code, total, batch, enter, verify and reconcile transactions such as accounts payable and receivable, payroll, purchase orders, cheques, invoices, cheque requisitions, and bank statements in a ledger or computer system.
    • Compile budget data and documents based on estimated revenues and expenses and previous budgets.
    • Prepare period or cost statements or reports.
    • Calculate costs of materials, overhead and other expenses based on estimates, quotations, and price lists.
    • Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations and solve problems.
    • Perform related clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems, faxing and photocopying.
    • Students will also learn the legislation and rules about Canadian Payroll. However, to be a Certified
    • Payroll Administrator, students must pass an external exam from the Canadian Payroll Association.

  • The Medical Office Assistant program will provide students with the knowledge needed to become integral members of the health care team. A Medical Office Assistant performs many administrative and some basic clinical procedures. Students will learn the skills to perform duties such as scheduling medical appointments, receiving and communicating messages for doctors and patients, typing medical records, reports and correspondence, and maintaining confidential medical files and records.

    Major responsibilities of the Medical Office Assistant include:


    • Cooperate with all members of the health team.

    • Promote safety, work in a safe manner, practice universal precautions and maintain a clean working environment.

    • Type medical records, reports and correspondence from handwritten notes or machine dictation.

  • The Early Childcare Assistant program equips childcare workers with the knowledge, skills and experience for employment as Assistants in day care or early learning centers. The program gives students an overview of the responsibilities of an early childcare assistant and the opportunity to perform these responsibilities through an on-site practicum placement. The program also presents foundational skills needed for those seeking to move into an Early Childhood Educator program.

    Career Responsibilities

    The program includes a practicum that provides the student with an opportunity to incorporate classroom theory into real work situations. It allows the student the ability to demonstrate, evaluate and refine skills needed by a professional in an early child care environment. It also provides mentorship for the student to observe and interact with other early childhood professionals.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE PRACTICUM INCLUDE:

    • Develop a reflective practice by keeping a daily journal of practicum experiences.
    • Reflect on each practicum assignment and experience; evaluate practices used and decisions made.

  • The Personal Support Worker program prepares graduates to provide supportive care to individuals across their lifespan. Students will learn to assist individuals with their activities of daily living, including those with cognitive impairment, physical disability, and mental health challenges.

    Career Responsibilities

    The program includes clinical placements that will allow students to participate in supervised practices in both community settings and nursing homes. Clinical placements provide students with an opportunity to practice their new skills in a real-life work setting. While on placement, students gain experience in a wider range of support worker skills. The Personal Support Worker program will equip the student with the following knowledge, skills and responsibilities:
    • Provide personal care and companionship.
    • Assist with all activities of daily living including bathing, toileting, dressing, mobility and feeding.
    • Assist client to walk, support at bedside, support client’s independence regarding medications.
    • Perform light housekeeping and cleaning.
    • Recognize and report changes in a client’s behavior/condition.
    • Provides informal counseling, as needed.
    • Work within the role in a variety of settings in accordance with all applicable legislation and employer policies and procedures.
    • Act responsibly, be accountable and understand the skills and knowledge boundaries of the role.

  • The Red Cross Babysitting course, refreshed and revised, now has a greater emphasis on First Aid skills. The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency.

  • Red Cross Standard First Aid & Cpr/aed – Level C
    Compromising of a two-day course, is the most popular and most comprehensive of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certifications. This results in a three-year certification and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. It also meets federal regulations and a variety of provincial/territorial regulations for Standard First Aid and CPR and exceeds competitors’ standards by including injury prevention content, CPR and AED.

    Career Responsibilities

    The certificate offers first aid and skills for those who need two-day training course due to work requirements.

Languages, ESL Programs

  • English as a second language programs typically focus their courses on four areas – speaking, listening, reading and writing– to give students a well-rounded understanding of the English language. Classes are heavily group-based, and students are encouraged to interact with each other through presentations, dialogue components and language lab work. Students will be assessed before their program begins to determine their starting point in the program, as well as the duration. Assessments are normally based on an in-house test or through international tests such as TOEFL or IELTS.
  • How can I prepare for the citizenship test?

    To become a Canadian citizen you must pass the Canadian citizenship test. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) administers this test. This is a multiple-choice test with questions about Canada. This includes questions about Canada’s history, geography, political system, national symbols, identity and values, and of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

    CITIZENSHIP CLASSES ARE GENERALLY FREE OR LOW COST AND COVER TOPICS SUCH AS:

    • Canadian geography
    • Canadian economics
    • Canadian history
    • Canadian government (3 levels)
    • Voting in Canada
    • Rights and responsibilities of citizenship
    • Canadian culture and symbols
    • Current events
  • THERE ARE TWO CHOICES FOR STUDENTS, WITH PREPARATORY CLASSES FOR EITHER OF THE TWO VERSIONS OF THE IELTS EXAM:

    • IELTS Academic: If the student wants to study at university, at an undergraduate or postgraduate level, or join a professional association where English is a prerequisite.
    • IELTS General: If the student wants to apply for Express Entry or any other immigration program in order to establish anywhere in Canada.
    Please note that a minimum of 5 hours are required to register and additional hours can be added as the student wishes.
  • TOEFL results are recognized by more than 9,000 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries, including Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the United States. There is a five-hour minimum for this course, but additional hours can be added on as the student wishes. Class times are flexible and can be held during regular business hours, in the evenings or on weekends. The class will always focus on the student’s individual needs.

    Career Responsibilities

    The student will be prepared for the TOEFL exam. In this one-on-one class, the instructor works with the student to improve their English language skills. Aside from content, instructors will provide insight on the format of the exam, valuable tips for answering the questions, and practice questions from previous exams.

Skilled Trades, Auto, Fire Programs

  • After completing the information/orientation sessions for the Ontario Building Code, the Ontario Building Code/Legal program begins in September 2019. This will be the first part and after completion of the Legal Part (which is mandatory), students are asked to confirm with the instructor their intentions for next steps: the Small or Large section.

    Career Responsibilities

    The Legal Part of the Ontario Building Code will require students to purchase two volumes, the compendium version and the General Legal 2012 course manual. Both are available for purchase online at Building Code and Trade Manuals website. The Compendium can also be purchased at the Service Ontario Publications website, and the workbook can also be purchased by following the appropriate link on the Ontario Building Code Training Courses website.

Technology, Networking Programs

  • Students in the REVIT architectural modeling program will learn how to use the robust architectural design system known as REVIT. This software application was created for architects and building professionals. Those who want to pursue a career in architecture or other building professional fields will learn how to use the tool to support building information modeling workflows, known as BIM.
