Creative Arts, Interactive, Sound Programs

  • Building a dream career in any creative field requires a solid educational foundation to build upon. During the Visual Arts Foundation program, students are taught key skills and techniques that will lay that foundation into further studies.

    A prerequisite to other McKenzie College diploma programs, this eight-month certificate program is for aspiring artists and designers who wish to advance their artistic skills and build an extensive fine art portfolio.

    Our creative studio environment allows students to learn critical thinking and time management skills through a series of hands-on projects. They will also have the opportunity to explore various media and art styles while developing new techniques and approaches to their work.

    Upon successful completion, students are highly recommended to further their studies at McKenzie College. Further studies increase opportunities to a career in areas of fine arts, game and animation, marketing and advertising, and design.

  • This program provides students with the necessary visual communication and design foundation skills to enter the Graphic Design program at McKenzie College.  It will offer applicants an opportunity to develop and focus their artistic and design talents specifically for the profession of Graphic Design.

    Course Objectives

  • Skilled designers are sharp and imaginative thinkers who are able to see the world from various points of view. With that, they employ creative methods and critical thinking to design a product that inspires a particular audience toward a desired objective. A designer’s goal is often to create a visual solution for a marketing or advertising purpose, to inform and persuade through visuals.

    The Graphic Design program concentrates on rigorous evaluation of how effective design is created. This involves learning the fundamentals of Graphic Design while practicing the most relevant, technical skills associated with each project our students complete.

    This diploma program provides students with a strong foundation in visual communication, design principles, as well as, professional business skills. Students are assigned a wide assortment of design projects that are common to the various industries they will work in after graduation.

    They will also have the opportunity to acquire real world knowledge by being immersed in an internship with an advertising agency, printing house, production company or another related entity within the region.

  • With a focus on exploring most forms of Photography, our students will learn the techniques and technical skills necessary to capture and produce professional level images, all while developing their own style and creative eye.

    The Photography Media Arts program uses a project-based curriculum that gives students the opportunity to work on real world projects, both in our studio and in the field. From fashion photography to event photography, food and product, landscape, sports/action and everything in between, individuals will explore different camera techniques, shooting styles and subject matter. This builds a significant portfolio of work.

    Upon graduation, each student will have the skills to start their own freelance photography business. Whether it’s in photojournalism, commercial (for advertising) photography, freelance, or a combination, there are growing opportunities for those who choose to apply themselves.

  • This program provides students with the necessary volumetric drawing, rendering and foundational design skills to enter the Video Game Art program at McKenzie College. It will offer applicants an opportunity to develop and focus their artistic and design skills for the Video Game Art program.

  • The demand for 2D interactive games has never been higher and it continues to grow exponentially each year. As a result, so has the demand for the Visual Artists responsible for the concepts, characters and animations for these games. The Video Game Art program will teach you the key skills to create professional level game art and animation for the games of the future.

    Studying within our collaborative team environment, our Video Game Art students will learn the process of creating the visual assets required for modern interactive games, from concept designs through final game art and animation.

    Individuals will quickly advance their skills while building an extensive traditional and digital portfolio. This diploma program focuses on developing conceptualization and artistic skills, with a strong emphasis on creative problem solving. Through the development of 2D and 3D game art, we will explore a variety of styles that align with today’s industry standards.

  • This 10-month diploma program provides students with the skills necessary for a career as a 2D and 3D animator, modeller, texture artist, in a typical animation/ art department within the fields of television animation and mobile/ interactive video games.

    Building on the design skills and animation basics learned in the Video Game Art program, our TV & Game Animation students will learn to bring their designs to life through dynamic and entertaining 2D and 3D animation.

    Within a professional collaborative team environment, the students will learn to use the principles of animation to create convincing character movement and acting. Also, they will create all the visual assets, (backgrounds, models, textures and animation) needed for the demands of today’s TV and Game animation markets.

    The course will cover subjects such as 12 Principles of Animation, 2D and 3D character animation, 2-legged and 4-legged character animation, Scene planning, advanced Character Design and Environment/ Background Design, using tools such as Autodesk Maya, Sketchbook Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud.

    The students will progress through a curriculum that combines a variety of assignments and projects, allowing them to build an extensive portfolio and a Demo Reel of their completed animation necessary in applying for any position in these fields.

    Upon completion of the program, our students will posses the necessary skills to obtain a position as an entry-level animator for companies that produce 2D and 3D television series, commercials, video games, mobile games and interactive educational content.

  • Entrepreneurship is an increasingly popular career choice and business model. Social entrepreneurship tackles issues that can make a positive societal or environmental impact in your community. Through the creative use of technology and innovation, individuals can make a difference in the lives of others while still operating a profitable business.

    SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR: LARISSA FLANAGAN

    Those enrolled in the Social Entrepreneurship Program gain practical business skills and tools fundamental to operating a successful social enterprise. While establishing a business, they are learning about the latest technologies in digital marketing, appropriate use of design, web-based tools, effective communication, social media marketing strategies, web design, Customer Relationship Management systems and financial control tools.

    Students become Social Entrepreneurs by developing well-researched business plans that will create sustainable value. They will fund their enterprises with investment partners and develop a valuable network of business and professional entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in their communities.

    After completing this program, Social Entrepreneurs will have the knowledge and skills to launch a social enterprise, partner with other entrepreneurs or work for a larger organization to develop social capital and understanding.

Technology, Networking Programs

  • Software testing is a critical component of the software development cycle and therefore a high priority for Information Technology (IT) companies. Today, the demand for Software Testers in our region and worldwide is vast.

    The McKenzie College Software Testing diploma program provides students with the main concepts, processes, tools and skills necessary to complete professional and compliant software testing in a test environment. In addition to working on projects that reinforce skill acquisition, students will have an opportunity to gain real world experience during an Internship with local companies.

    The curriculum will also prepare individuals to acquire industry-recognized certification in quality assurance testing.

    Graduates from this program will be qualified for entry-level software testing positions in the Information Technology (IT) quality testing industry.

Skilled Trades, Auto, Fire Programs

  • The trucking industry in Canada is facing a critical shortage of qualified, well-trained, experienced truck drivers.  In New Brunswick, trucking companies say they’re struggling to fill jobs that pay an average of $55,000.00 per year.  In response to these industry needs, McKenzie College is excited to introduce this NEW program for International students with trucking experience in their home country.

    The Tractor Trailer Driver for Foreign Nationals Program provides international students with the communication skills in English to be fully prepared to enter a professional career in this industry.  It provides applicants with comprehensive training to be a Truck Driver adhering to all required federal and provincial motor vehicle safety and licensing standards as well as industry regulation and association expectations.

    In addition, they will complete a practicum placement with a large trucking company in the region.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate from McKenzie College which is a Designated Learning Institution, approved by the federal government of Canada, Immigration, refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the New Brunswick Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour (PETL).
