Train from industry experts to provide important patient care as a Sonographer in Ultrasound Technology in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography involves using ultrasound equipment to use high-frequency sound waves to capture images of body organs, masses and fetuses at various stages of pregnancy. Sonographers are important members of a patient care team, assessing patients and ensuring accurate information is provided to the physician to confirm a diagnosis. Graduates will find themselves working in a hospital or private clinic setting.
A full time condensed, 80-week program, the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is offered as a blended learning program, combining face-to-face instruction, with structured online learning components, allowing students to balance life commitments while advancing their education. This program has extensive on campus clinical training as well as hospital and clinic-based practicum placements (see below).
Students will learn everything from important anatomy and patient care to proper equipment-use, quality imaging and proper procedures for scanning. Small class sizes and a practicum component allow for a more focused learning environment for students to hone their skills and succeed in the profession.
Upon successful completion of all requirements, students will receive a Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Health care workers see people at their most vulnerable state. Empathy and compassion are important attributes for a Sonographer.
To be successful, we encourage students who have the following:
Our Basic Relaxation Massage Diploma instructors live, eat and breathe massage. Over the course of our Basic Relaxation Massage Diploma, our instructors take students through a fantastic journey, learning about massage and the body, entirely from a massage point of view. Content includes Swedish Relaxation Massage as the foundation, as well as an introduction to therapeutic techniques.
The curriculum is designed to inspire students to recognize the full potential benefits of the healing massage the impact it can have on our modern world. Once you get a taste of what you can do for people, you will want to complete the 2nd year Advanced Therapeutic Massage diploma as well. Students who ONLY complete the Basic diploma find it increasingly difficult to obtain employment, and find it hard to receive work in other provinces outside Alberta.
Upon successful completion of all requirements, students will receive a Diploma in Massage Therapy (1008 Hours).
The Basic Relaxation Massage Diploma is a blend of distance and classroom learning, with a hands-on, practical component. In between the once-a-month classroom sessions, students must complete home study assignments, correspondence work and practical work experience.
Classroom instruction: Students must attend 7, 2-day classroom tutorials spaced approximately 4 weeks apart. Each day is divided into 2 classes: ½ day of academic instruction and ½ day of massage treatments. At the start of every weekend of classroom instruction (with the exception of the first class), students must write an examination consisting of the material taught in the previous month including all assigned home study for that month. If the student does not complete the materials as assigned they will be unable to successfully complete the exam. Classes take place on both Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
Home study assignments: These are assigned at the end of each weekend of classroom instruction to be completed prior to the next class. They provide reinforcement and expansion of the concepts presented in class.
Correspondence lessons: These are supplied at the end of each weekend of classroom instruction. The student is required to complete and submit the correspondence lesson at the next scheduled class. These lessons provide the student with the ability to improve their critical thinking and reading skills, and to prepare them for the independent nature and business of massage therapy.
Practical work experience: Students must obtain the required hours of supervised work experience within a specific time frame.
The Advanced Massage Diploma: Clinical Assessment and Correction Specialization is designed for those students with the ability and intent to provide therapeutic (corrective) treatments for their clients. At MCG Career College, we believe that this area of training has been substandard in the industry for many years and results in graduates that use relaxation techniques for therapeutic treatments.
This second year course teaches proper assessment and correction techniques, used specifically for therapeutic applications. All concepts taught in the first year Basic Relaxation Massage diploma are reinforced and expanded upon, but the emphasis is now on assessment and corrective techniques for acute and chronic pain found in the soft tissues and associated structures of the body.
This diploma is 1288 hours and takes place over 10 months. It follows the same format and requirements as the Basic Relaxation Massage Diploma over a longer time period.
Completion of both the Basic Relaxation Massage Diploma and the Advanced Therapeutic Massage Diploma will provide the graduate with 2296 hours of instruction.
Like the Basic Relaxation Massage Diploma, the Advanced Therapeutic Massage Diploma is a blend of distance and classroom learning, with a hands-on, practical component. In between the once-a-month classroom sessions, students must complete home study assignments, correspondence work and practical work experience.
