Skilled Trades, Auto, Fire Programs

  • The Environmental Health & Safety Technician provides supervisory level training from our industry experienced and certified instructors through a variety of theory and hands on training. Get the skills and certifications needed to prepare you for a career across many industries at home in Nova Scotia or across Canada in Health & Safety and Environmental Services.

    Health and Safety Technicians work with specialists in conducting tests and measuring hazards to help prevent harm to employees, property, the environment and the public. Technicians supports a safe working environment by maintaining OHS administrative processes, conducting training and using processes and common practice solutions to OHS hazards.

     Occupational health and safety technicians work in a variety of settings, such as offices, industrial or manufacturing sector, construction and many other areas.  Often, their jobs consist of fieldwork and travel.

    METI’s Environmental Health & Safety Technician training program responds to the demands of employees in the area of health and safety. Students completing their training graduate knowing how to interpret and reference OHS legislation, develop OHS Programs, conduct audits and inspections of existing OHS and environmental programs, and design and deliver effective OHS training programs to staff for their employers.

    The EHST Program meets the formal education requirements for certification with the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) for the Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certification program.

  • The trucking industry is a stable and growing sector that is in the need of qualified Class 1 Operators. Receive the certifications you’ll need to work here in Nova Scotia and across Canada. METI’s Class 1 Driver – Tractor Trailer Program prepares you to become a professional driver by following and meeting the standard for Tractor Trailer Training criteria set by the Trucking Human Resource Sector Council (THRSC) and industry. This 15 week program consists of 11 weeks at METI with over 50 hours of Behind the Wheel time and 4 weeks of Internship.   Many employees are required to have additional safety certifications which are included in the program, eliminating the need  and cost of additional training. Your training certifications will be from METI,  Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA), Energy Safety Canada, Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA), Nova Scotia Dept. of Transportation, Canada Safety Council, Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), and St. John Ambulance, giving you a competitive edge for employment. METI trains with over 500 business and trade professionals. Our course was developed with input from industry professionals who continue to work with us, ensuring that you have the most hire-able skills in the industry. Our support continues long after you have completed your training. We strive to provide Class 1 Driver Training – Tractor Trailer Program graduates with information on career opportunities and career advancement.  
  • METI’s 7 week Construction & Oilfield Driver Class 3– Be Job-Ready with 18 Industry Certifications & 2 Nova Scotia Driver Endorsements, all in 7 weeks. Be trained to  drive tandem trucks, cement trucks, fuel trucks, flatbed, vac truck operator, oilfield swamper and more. METI trains with over 500 business and trade professionals. Our Class 3 Program was developed with input from industry professionals who continue to work with us, ensuring that you have the most hire-able skills in the industry. Your Nova Scotia Driver License will upgrade to a Nova Scotia Class 3 Driver License which will include an Air Brakes Endorsement. Our Class 3 Driver Course gives you MORE certifications and  training. Certifications will be from METI, Nova Scotia Dept. of Transportation, The Canada Safety Council, Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA), Energy Safety Canada, Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) and St. John Ambulance, giving you a competitive edge for employment.   • Learn to assemble one of the most commonly used scaffold system in the construction industry. This scaffold consists of welded steel or aluminum frames connected by cross braces to form a framework to support planks or other platform systems.
  • Train to assemble this versatile type of scaffold, consisting of aluminum tubes and clamps.  Tube and Clamp is best suited for refineries, oil and gas plants and other industrial settings due to its versatility.
  • This program gives you the knowledge, skills and certifications needed to gain employment as a Skilled Labourer in a variety of work settings across Canada. This 5 week program combines instruction with hands-on training to better prepare you to work safely and successfully, whether in construction, the oilfield, manufacturing or anywhere a skilled labourer is needed. The hands on training is in a simulated working environment with industry experienced instructors, giving students the advantage of their knowledge and expertise.The training site is over 10 acres…lots of room to play!     YD believes that Evasive Maneuvers are an important part of your learning experience. We teach these skills in car, because that’s where you will need them. METI’s History

Continued development and enhancement are top priorities for METI, and we continue to strive to provide the best training experience to our students and clients. Since incorporation in 1991, METI purchased Hatscan Online, an online training venture which has provided training for over 70,000 users and over 500 businesses.

In addition to the global reach of our online training, METI has delivered instructor-led training across Canada and in locales such as Scotland and Bangladesh. Along with providing classroom-based training, METI provides on-line learning. Our learning management system (LMS) administers and tracks training across 4 continents, allowing supervisors and managers to oversee training history and records of their employees with our Administration Control feature. Since acquiring our new campus in 2012, METI’s Sydney, Nova Scotia location boasts a training facility, complete with two building units with over 22,000 square feet and a fully developed training yard.
