  • GENERAL INFORMATION
    We are pleased that you are interested in Maple Leaf Academy. To come to CANADA as an International Student, you need to know the following information. Please read each enclosed page carefully. General Information Maple Leaf Academy features the following international English programs: • ESL (English as a Second Language) • ESL Academic (IELTS) Our ESL programs are aimed at students over the age of eighteen (18) who have graduated from High School. All students must provide letters from themselves detailing why they would like to study at the Academy (Letter of Intent). This can be attached as a scanned or typed document. Program Information Maple Leaf Academy offers: • Intensive instruction in ESL training with low student/teacher ratio • Maximum of 16 students per class • Subjects cover listening/speaking, reading, writing/grammar, pronunciation, and Canadian culture • Students can register for any number of weeks with a minimum of two (2) weeks starting on every Monday and Tuesday. • Students enrolling in our ESL Academic program must qualify by passing a MLA placement test. MLA accepts students at the level equivalent to the Canadian Language Benchmarks 1 to 7.
  • Our ESL program offers the following training and includes: 1. A Major Focus on Language Training 2. Training and Orientation in Canadian Working and Social Structure 3. Subject-based Teaching:

    • Pronunciation
    • Canadian culture
    4. Groups of up to 14 Students 5. Computer Lab 6. Pronunciation Training Lab

  • Maple Leaf Academy offers a unique and specialized Corporate ESL Program that works closely with employers and participants to achieve desired results, while also teaching Canadian culture and business. Through our program, clients acquire the skills necessary to be successful in the business world. Our program will help students: communicate more precisely, write effectively and efficiently, and improve confidence and communication.
    1. Communication:
      • Presentation, meeting and network skills
      • Negotiating
      • Small talk
      • Listening for specific information as well as for main ideas
      • Confidence, fluency, eye contact and body language
      • Computer assisted learning to improve clarity in speaking (pronunciation)
    2. Reading:
      • Comprehension

    3. Writing:

      • Different genres of writing (email, memo, business letters, drafts, reports, proposals and taking notes)

  • aple Leaf Academy has an agreement with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada to provide English instruction for newcomers (permanent residents and refugees) to Calgary.  This program is ineligible to receive students on study permit.
    LINC PROGRAM: LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION FOR NEWCOMERS TO CANADA
    Sponsored by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. The LINC program provides free English instruction to qualifying applicants.
    YOU QUALIFY FOR THE LINC PROGRAM IF YOU:
    • are a permanent resident or have refugee status • are not a Canadian citizen • have an English language assessment within the LINC level

In the accountability of every person at the Academy; Administrative personnel, teachers, support staff, and students all share in and accept responsibility for the effectiveness and quality of services provided and received.


*All student funding, whether made available privately or through various government branches, is only approved to those who qualify, by the original source of funding. There are many criteria that each candidate must meet to be approved. Schools can only inform you of what may be available.
