Creative Arts, Interactive, Sound Programs

  • This 26-week Fashion Design program consists of in-depth theory, practical knowledge, additional open lab time and hands-on, creative projects. To ensure that your training is current and cutting edge, we’ve teamed up with top fashion designers from Alexander McQueen, Aritzia, Lululemon, Helly Hansen, Kit and Ace, and OAK+FORT, giving you access to some of the most design-oriented minds in the city. We asked these industry leaders what they’re looking for in recent graduates, and incorporated their wants and needs into an efficient 6-month design program. By the end of the program, you’ll showcase your debut collection to a live audience at the JCI Graduating Fashion Show.

The goal of this innovative, practical program is to provide the knowledge and skills to work as a designer with confidence and pride. Students will be able to identify, understand, and use the types of equipment, tools, software, and materials required to complete garment construction. JCI graduates have the ability to stand out as a designer with strong practical and technical skills. After only 6 months of study, students will complete a collection of garments to be featured in a fashion show.

Beauty, Esthetics, Barber Programs

  • This six-month certificate program will teach you what it takes to gain a foothold in the beauty industry, equipping you with the skills you need to become a successful, working makeup artist. You’ll start with the basics, like skin care and everyday makeup, then go on to master bridal makeup, high-fashion, glamour makeup, airbrushing, and hairstyling. On top of providing you with an immersive, hands-on education, the FAB Makeup program has a renowned reputation for connecting students with influential industry contacts. By the end of the program, you’ll graduate with the entrepreneurial mindset and portfolio you need to launch your career as an artist.

  • JCI’s award-winning Makeup Artistry Diploma Program has a reputation for supplying the most sought-after graduates who become movers and shakers in the industry. During this forty-nine week, full-time program, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of makeup artistry — from everyday beauty to nightmare-inducing special effects. Our instructors are graduates themselves, which means they can relate to you every step of the way. They’re also successful artists in a variety of fields, so your course material will always be cutting-edge and relevant. We’ve kept our class sizes small (16 students max.) to ensure you receive the individual attention you need. This also fosters a sense of community between you and your fellow artists. As the pioneer of prosthetic lab techniques and face-casting in Western Canada, JCI is often the first stop for recruiters. Our dedicated Industry Liaison, Jennine, will work with you to think beyond the classroom — where will you go from here? Jennine has a network of connections at her disposal, which means job postings are communicated directly to you. Whether you want to pursue makeup artistry in fashion, film, or special effects, an education at JCI will give you a serious advantage when starting your career.

  • In 2004, JCI and AXIS Training Systems teamed up because there wasn’t a curriculum out there that addressed the changing needs of hairdressers and their clients. By replacing outdated methods with an innovative, fresh approach, JCI and AXIS Training Systems were the first to launch a program that considered the future of hair: the Hair Art Design Program. Our 6-month, hands-on program is broken down into 20 hours per week, with the option of morning, afternoon, evening or weekend classes. If you’re currently working, our flexible class times make retraining for a new career more doable than ever. Student loans are also available for those who qualify. Your workspace should inspire you— our teaching salon is no exception. Located in Gastown, the salon occupies a 1,200 square foot loft-style space, putting you at the centre of Vancouver’s creative and cultural hub. The school is run exactly like the AXIS Salon, so you’ll learn how to provide clients with a professional salon experience. As for your teachers, they are top-working professionals and guest instructors who are dialled into industry trends. They’ll help you build strong foundations in cutting, colouring and styling so that upon graduation, you’ll have the skills and confidence to start working immediately.

  • Body Spa & Medi Esthetics
We developed this program to offer students like you the most advanced body spa and esthetics curriculum out there. That’s why we teamed up with the top medical estheticians, aromatherapists, nail technicians, and holistic massage practitioners in the industry — to make sure that your coursework and methods are always cutting-edge. To top it off, our beautiful, modern facilities ensure your training takes place in a realistic spa setting. The program is 44-weeks long, and is one-of-a-kind in professional spa training, encompassing basic and advanced spa services. As a student, you’ll study in-depth theory and gain practical knowledge. You’ll have constant opportunities to practice and hone your skills — on family members and friends to start, then eventually on real clients. You’ll also take weekly tests, work on creative projects and master spa floor services. By the end of the program, you’ll be spa-ready—projecting professionalism and confidence when it comes to every spa service in the book.
