Beauty, Esthetics, Barber Programs

  • This program is designed for students seeking full time learning with no salon experience or industry employment necessary. Delmar’s 1400 Hour Hairstyling Program offers cutting edge training with instruction from highly qualified professionals versed in all elements of hair design and salon business. Our in-depth 1400 Hour Program includes theory, practical sessions of study (on mannequin and on live models), business training and salon client work. Students have the opportunity to be involved in competitions, various events and photo shoots. Our students also received many product knowledge seminars as well as we encourage our salon partners to share experiences with our students through on-going visits and demonstrations.
    Student funding is available for this program.
    This fast paced and fun program will take you through the basics to advanced skills, preparing you for your government exams and everything you need to know to have a successful career as a hair stylist. Some of the skills you will master:

  • Delmar is proud to offer Government recognized Barber Training. Successful completion of our 525 Hour barbering program will not only give you the skills and knowledge needed to pass the apprenticeship exams but these hours are included as your required technical training. All of our staff are certified Red Seal journeypersons with many years of experience in the trade. They are able to offer cutting edge in depth training including theory and practical sessions of study. Delmar students have the opportunity to be involved in competitions, industry events and photo shoots. You will also receive product knowledge seminars and Practical Components

  • Delmar College is proud to be the designated site approved to offer the Hairstylist Apprenticeship Program. Hairstylists learn their skills by registering with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training to participate in apprenticeship training. Upon successful completion, they are awarded the Alberta Journeyman Certificate.

    Apprenticeship Training:

    First Period Apprenticeship (350 hours) Start your practical journey with learning the foundation of consultations, haircutting, thermal styling, tapers/fades, hot shaves and shampoo/scalp treatments.  In addition to the above theory, you will also learn about anatomy, hair theory and haircare, infection control, chemistry/matter and salon/barbershop business. You will complete both First Period theory and practical exams at the end of the program. Second Period Apprenticeship (350 hours) Upon successful completion of First Period Apprenticeship, your journey continue’s with learning the foundation of wet styling, chemical texturizing (perms and chemical relaxers) and haircoloring.  You will learn both theory and practical components and will be prepared to complete your Second Period theory and practical exams at the end of the program. Once you have successfully completed both First and Second Period, you will be ready to write your Red Seal theory exam. In addition to the above technical training (700 hours), you need to complete 2800 hours working in a salon with a Journeyman Hairstylist. If you are registered for a Barbering License, your technical training will end after successful completion of Period One.  In addition to your technical training, you will need to complete 1450 hours in a barbershop with a Licensed Barber/Journeyman Hairstylist. A Barbering License allows haircutting and shaving services ONLY.

*All student funding, whether made available privately or through various government branches, is only approved to those who qualify, by the original source of funding. There are many criteria that each candidate must meet to be approved. Schools can only inform you of what may be available.
