Beauty, Esthetics, Barber Programs

  • The Nail Technician program prepares individuals for employment in the growing and diverse beauty industry.  This course covers sanitation, safety and hygiene, nail health, manicures, pedicures and artificial nail application and enhancement. Students will develop skills through both classroom and practical learning. This program consists of four classes from the Sask Polytechnic Esthetician Program: SANT 105 Sanitation, Safety and Hygiene, COSM 102 Manicuring and Pedicuring, COSM 217 Specialized Manicures and Pedicures, and COSM 218 Nail Technology. Successful completion of these classes meets the Saskatchewan Trade Advisory Board's criteria for employment as a Nail Technician.

Business, Accounting, Marketing Programs

  • The program provides a well rounded base of knowledge and skill development related to the business environment.  You will receive practical and applied training in:  word processing; accounting; automated accounting; spreadsheets; database and internet searches; office procedures; employability skills; communications; business calculations; job search techniques.

Education, Teaching Programs

  • Cumberland College offers a number of different sessions of Early Childhood Education. Usually there is at least one Early Childhood Education Level 1 offered and one part-time Early Childhood Education Level 2 program offered in the region.  For more information about our upcoming offerings, please contact us by email or phone 306.862.9849.

    Early Childhood Education Level 1

    This introductory course provides the minimum training required by Saskatchewan Ministry of Education in order to work as a child daycare worker. The curriculum emphasizes on the content and best practices in three core areas: child guidance, play & exploration and health, safety & nutrition. This recently revised course is based on the Ministry's new Play and Exploration Early Learning Program, the curriculum framework used for all childhood programs in the province. In addition to the workshops, home study will be required. The Early Childhood Education Level 1 courses

    • Dynamics of Play (ECE 106)
    • Health/Safety/Nutrition (ECE 142)
    offer a Certificate of Achievement and are credit courses toward the Early Childhood Education Diploma.

Engineering Programs

  • This course is intended to assist students to prepare to write the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan (TSASK) Limited Power Engineering (Fireman’s Certificate) exam. Topics include: Low pressure heat boilers, fuel and firing equipment, automatic controls, pumps, piping fittings, valves, steam and hot water heating, ventilation, basic electricity, and the Boiler Pressure Vessel Act and Regulations.

Healthcare, Wellness, Pharma Programs

  • The Continuing Care Assistant program provides knowledge and skill development in helping people to help themselves in their homes and special care facilities. You will receive training in: gerontology, dementia management strategies, applying the philosophy of long term care into home care, special care and community settings, promoting independence in a safe environment, working with people from all cultures, working with individuals with different levels of physical and cognitive impairment, giving personal care, and attending to psychosocial needs.

  • The University of Saskatchewan offers degrees in Nutrition and Pharmacy.   Students can complete the first year of both programs through Cumberland College. Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) The College of Pharmacy and Nutrition will launch a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) four-year program in fall 2017 to replace the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy as the first professional degree required to practice as a licensed pharmacist. Candidates for admission must have completed 60 credit units (or equivalent) by April 30 of the year admission is desired.  Students are able to complete the first year (30 credit units) at Cumberland College. Bachelor of Science in Nutrition The B.Sc. (Nutrition) program involves an exciting and unique structure and a partnership with the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region (RQHR) and Saskatoon Health Region (SHR). One year of pre-Nutrition studies is required, after which students may apply to enter the B.Sc. (Nutr.).  The pre-Nutrition year is available at Cumberland College. At the University of Saskatchewan, the professional experiences that were previously included in postgraduate dietetic internship (which is still the case for many of the Nutrition programs in other parts of Canada) are now incorporated within the degree. Applicants require a minimum of one year (30 credit units) of university training, a “pre-Nutrition year”, prior to April 30 of the year of application, to be considered for admission.
  • Pre-medicine
    To become a medical doctor you must have completed a 4-year (120 credit unit) Baccalaureate (Bachelor's) degree before you can be accepted into the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.  You may take any 120 credit unit degree and, therefore, should pursue a degree in a field in which you are interested.  While prerequisite courses are not mandatory, applicants are strongly encouraged to complete equivalent/similar courses (introductory level Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Statistics, Sociology and Psychology) to ensure readiness for the basic sciences covered in the first two years of the undergraduate medical curriculum and to prepare for the MCAT as well.
  • he Health Sciences offer many career choices: Dentistry, Optometry, Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Speech Pathology and even Veterinary Medicine to name a few.  There are many different ways to obtain any of these career choices. Some require a full degree before you can apply, others require two years or 60 credit units worth of course work.
  • Cumberland College offers the pre-professional year of classes that lead into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Saskatchewan.  The pre-professional year is study at the post-secondary level consisting of 30 credit units of courses. A minimum weighted average of 60% in these courses is required for admission to Nursing.  Admission to Year 2 of Nursing is competitive, therefore, the average for admission to Year 2 is normally higher than 60%. The College of Nursing offers three years of nursing education that builds upon a pre-professional year leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.). Students in the pre-professional year study courses in the humanities, natural, social and health sciences all of which are foundational for the nursing program. The complete program is offered in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Yorkton, and the north.  Part-time study is an option, but all courses must be completed within six years of commencing the first nursing course. In order to be eligible for licensure with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association (SRNA) graduates must pass a national council licensure examination (NCLEX) and pay the required fees.

Human & Social Services, CSW Programs

  • The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is a four-year degree program offered through the University of Regina's Faculty of Social Work, as well as Yukon College and regional colleges throughout Saskatchewan. The BSW is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education. The curriculum incorporates essential field education components that enable you to develop the skills learned in the classroom through direct experience in Social Work practice, even before you graduate.

    There are two entry points into the Faculty of Social Work: Pre-Social Work, and the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). Applicants must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours of prescribed University courses prior to gaining admission to the BSW and can do this through the Pre-Social Work program. Applicants to the BSW must have achieved a minimum UGPA of 70% and a minimum Program Grade Point Average (PGPA) of 70% on all courses contributing to the BSW degree, including failing grades and grades from courses granted as transfer credit towards the program.

Skilled Trades, Auto, Fire Programs

  • This applied certificate program develops the skills you need to work in residential and commercial construction and related industries. Instruction will include, but will not be limited to: blueprints and quantity survey, concrete, foundations, framing, interior finishes, roof coverings, and scaffolds. Trade time and academic credit may be available for graduates who find employment in the trade and register as apprentices.
  • The electrical program is an applied certificate that provides entry level skill training. You will learn how to make electrical installations and perform maintenance duties according to industry standards. This program develops the skills you need to work in residential and commercial construction and related industries.
  • Industrial Mechanics is a certificate program. It provides knowledge and skill development in installing, servicing, repairing and overhauling machines which produce industrial goods. You will receive:
    • a working knowledge of machinery common to most industries
    • an introduction to preventive maintenance procedures
    • an opportunity to develop the skills needed to install mechanical equipment and keep it in good running order
