Business, Accounting, Marketing Programs

  • The 34 week Administrative Assistant Program is designed to prepared students to enter the job market with the skills and knowledge of business and computers necessary to qualify them for responsible positions as Administrative Assistants. The program stresses thorough training in essential professional skills and mastery of business procedures and communications. The program gives students the essential skills they need to perform effectively in the technology-rich offices of the 21st century. Students learn to operate the most widely used word-processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and accounting software packages on the market today. The program also includes a marketing component to help you market your business in a world where social media dominates the business landscape.
  • This intensive 26-week, full-time program is designed specifically to get individuals employed in a medical office. Students will receive plenty of hands-on experience and in-depth working knowledge of how busy medical offices function. Upon completion of this program, successful graduates will be ready to start work in most professional medical offices with a sound knowledge of the filing system, medical transcription, computerized appointment booking, the billing system, and the importance of record-keeping. This is an intensive program where individuals will graduate being ready to handle the day-to-day operations of a busy medical practice!

Beauty, Esthetics, Barber Programs

With the CBBC Career College Aesthetics program, we will prepare you to be career-ready and meet the requirements to earn your license through the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia. Throughout the Aesthetics program, Industry Experts will come and do theory and hands-on workshops to help you learn the latest in the beauty industry. You will get hands-on practice throughout your entire program through labs and clinic experience in our Aspirations Salon & Spa in Sydney, Nova Scotia and Regency Training Salon & Spa in Halifax, Nova Scotia. You will have the opportunity to work with products like Quannessence and CND Nail Polish.

You have a keen interest in helping others look and feel their best by expressing who they are and realize their own potential. The Combined Hair & Aesthetics program at CBBC Career College will allow you to exactly this. Over the course of two years, you will have earned both your Aesthetics and Cosmetology diplomas allowing you to work in either field or both. We will prepare you to be career-ready and meet the requirements to earn your licenses through the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia. You enjoy trying out new hairstyles on yourself, and trying the latest hair techniques. The Cosmetology program (Hair Stylist program) at CBBC Career College will allow you to do all of this. Over the course of 10 months you will have earned both Cosmetology diplomas, allowing you to work as a hairstylist. We will prepare you to be career-ready and to meet the requirements in order to earn your licenses through the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia. Throughout the Cosmetology program industry experts will come and instruct, through theory and hands-on workshops, in order to help you learn the latest in the beauty industry. You will get hands-on practice throughout your program, both in labs and also in clinic experience, at our Aspirations Salon & Spa in Sydney, Nova Scotia and our Regency Training Salon & Spa in Halifax, Nova Scotia.   • START A CAREER AS AN EYELASH ENHANCEMENT TECHNICIAN!

    The Eyelash Enhancement Technician program is now available at CBBC Career College in both Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia. Eyelash extensions have taken over and are here to stay! Grow your aesthetics skills and income with the part-time Eyelash Enhancement Technician program. Learn the eyelash extension skills necessary to help your clients look and feel great. You will learn:
    • Procedure(s) & draping
    • Eyelash systems
    • Lash removal
    • Tinting
    • Lash lifting
    • Maintenance
    You will spend 200 hours learning theory and complete a 100 hour practicum.

Human & Social Services, CSW Programs

    If so, a career as a Community Support Worker is right for you.

    Community Support/Service Workers, help support people with varying levels of physical and/or intellectual abilities or individuals with mental illness. Your primary role is to help these individuals attain their goals to help them live fulfilling lives. Each day and each client provides new opportunities and challenges. As a Community Support Worker you might:

    • Assist with personal care
    • Provide support for errands like grocery shopping, appointments, and more
    • Mentor clients in their vocational programs
    • Coach the skills needed for daily activities
    • Advocate for clients in a variety of settings

    CSW’s work in a variety of home, adult vocational or community settings. Job opportunities can be found with agencies, organizations or the government or community day programs throughout Nova Scotia. This career offers flexibility as positions may be part-time or offer shift work.

    The 35-week Community Support Worker program in Dartmouth and Sydney provides the knowledge and skills needed for this rewarding career. This program is taught over eight months and provides theory and hands-on practical learning. Our program will prepare you to work with clients with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities or other special needs. Each course is designed to prepare students for their careers. Students will apply what they have learned through group projects, papers, and presentations as well as work in two work practicums to apply what they have learned in the classroom.

    Students in this program will:

    • Learn practical skills related to reporting and workplace safety
    • Develop an understanding of relevant issues related to disability
    • Complete two work practicums
    • Be trained to work in home and community settings

    Each Community Support Worker course is taught by instructors who have worked in the field. By using real-world examples, they are able to help students relate the theory material to their new career. In addition to your diploma, students earn the following certificates:

    • First Aid & CPR Level C with AED
    • Food Handler Certificate
    • WHMIS and OHS

Healthcare, Wellness, Pharma Programs

  • You can complete your CCA course right on site at CBBC Career College in Dartmouth and Sydney where you will gain hands-on experience and practicum experience.   Find out more about the Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) program by clicking the Get More Info button. The CCA program consists of approximately 20 weeks of in-class instruction and 10 weeks of practicum placements. Students will be trained to provide direct client care in-home support agencies, nursing homes, and homes for the aged. Individuals will learn to provide care to meet the various needs of the elderly, disabled, and convalescents. Clinical Placements and Work Experience practicum in both long-term care and home-support agencies must be successfully completed in order to graduate. An interview may be required before accepting students for clinical experience. Students are required to provide their own transportation to clinical placements and work experience practicums. Shift work is an integral part of this occupation. Furthermore, physical demands include moving, lifting, and continued standing. Included in a student’s book fees is a charge of $150. This fee is for individuals who successfully complete all components of the program who will be eligible to write the provincial exam. The Nova Scotia Continuing Care Advisory Committee administers this provincial exam.
  • Students trained in the Dental Assisting Diploma will be prepared to assist the dental team in all aspects of care in a dental office.  They will learn to assist the dentist in all dental procedures performed in a general dental practice and will learn to administer individualized patient education and treatment as outlined under the scope of practice for dental assistants practicing in Nova Scotia. The program consists of 42 weeks of classroom and clinical instruction, as well as office rotations and a 5 week (184 hour) work term placement.  Successful completion of both the classroom, clinical and work term components of the program will qualify the student to receive their CBBC diploma.  Students must write and successfully pass the National Dental Assisting Board Examination in order to receive provincial licensing.  The cost for this examination will be included in the tuition costs for the program.
  • The practice of pharmacy has evolved beyond traditional dispensing functions. Therefore, the need for knowledgeable, technically skilled and competent support personnel is paramount. The Pharmacy Assistant program is designed to train Pharmacy Assistants to assist registered pharmacists or pharmacy technicians in community and hospital settings in their respective drug distribution systems. In addition to practical training using a commercial computer system, skills in communication and interpersonal relations will be developed. The program is 31 weeks in duration and includes 6 weeks of practicum placement.

Education, Teaching Programs

  • Education is constantly changing with the implementation of the all-inclusive classroom. As a result, there is a growing need for support staff in the classroom. The 34-week Teacher Assistant program includes both academic and practical work-term study. The work placement applies the academic techniques taught in the classroom and gives the opportunity for feedback. This program is excellent for someone wishing to work with children in a public school setting.
