Business, Accounting, Marketing Programs

  • Bay River College’s two-year International Business Management diploma program provides a valuable theoretical and practical understanding of today’s highly complex and interconnected business world. This program helps students enhance entrepreneurial opportunities and increases the potential for career advancement in Canada and around the world. Students learn how to gather and organize financial and non-financial information, determine the unit cost structure of a business organization, and develop profit management strategies. Throughout this course, students also enhance their interpersonal and business communication skills. In addition, students will learn the processes necessary to determine the financial position of a business organized as a partnership and corporation, the results of its operations and its cash flow for a given period per the Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP).

Travel, Tourism, Hospitality Programs

  • Bay River College’s two-year Hospitality Business Management diploma program is for individuals seeking the knowledge and skills required to enter the exciting field of hospitality management. This program prepares students for careers as managers and supervisors in hotels, resorts, food and beverage catering organizations and other accommodation service establishments. The Hospitality Business Management diploma program teaches students to effectively manage the responsibilities of planning, overseeing and evaluating the operations of an accommodation or hospitality operation, or a department within such an organization.

Healthcare, Wellness, Pharma Programs

  • Certified Health Care Aide assist nurses and other members of a health care team in the basic care of residents and patients. Primarily, health care aides assist with and provide the personal care and other daily activities necessary to ensure patients maintaining their maximum potential for independence and self-direction. This 6 month certification program utilizes the Government of Alberta’s provincial curriculum, and covers a variety of healthcare essentials, including caring for patients with chronic or complex illnesses, medication delivery and special activity planning.
  • Bay River College’s one-year Pharmacy Assistant diploma program covers the diverse topics required to successfully work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, including basic pharmacology, drug and medical terminology and pharmaceutical best practices. Students in this program also learn fundamental concepts in medical ethics and personal safety. The Pharmacy Assistant diploma program prepares students for a challenging and rewarding career assisting licensed pharmacists in the day-to-day operations of a pharmacy. Students acquire the necessary skills to fill orders, manage client information, prepare and process paperwork, and breakdown prescriptions. In addition, students receive hands-on training with leading pharmaceutical management software. Students will also learn how to effectively manage inventory and handle a variety of crucial administrative tasks.

Skilled Trades, Auto, Fire Programs

  • Bay River College’s two-year Applied Environmental Technology diploma program provides training in applied techniques to assess issues of environmental contamination in soil, groundwater and air, along with practical solutions to remediate and mitigate the contamination issues. The program offers an overview of air and noise pollution, water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management and in-depth techniques on environmental site characterization, soil and groundwater contamination assessment, risk assessment and management and remediation of soil and groundwater. The Applied Environmental Technology program also details field investigation methods for site characterization and offers field modules to observe different drilling and sampling techniques in real-world circumstances. Regulatory framework and environmental management aspects are also covered, providing students insight on the regulatory frameworks of Alberta, Canada and the United States of America. The program includes courses in applied computer techniques and software related to environmental management, such as GIS and remote sensing. The first few weeks of the program involve courses designed to provide strong foundations for later advanced technical modules, including applied chemical processes in the environment, applied mathematics and computer techniques.

Human & Social Services, CSW Programs

  • Bay River College’s two-year Community Support Worker diploma program is designed for individuals seeking the knowledge and skills to enter the field of social services and draws upon the principles of sociology, psychology and other social sciences to counsel and assist individuals and their families in understanding and resolving personal and social conflicts.

    Part of the program will focus on understanding multicultural backgrounds, disabilities, gender, sexual orientation, family issues and substance abuse. From there, students learn how to create and maintain helpful relationships through effective communication and interactive skills. They will be equipped to assess individual, family, group or community needs; set goals and develop appropriate intervention methods; implement strategies to increase clients’ problem-solving abilities as well as identify and mobilize community resources relevant to client needs.

Education, Teaching Programs

  • Bay River College’s one-year Education Assistant diploma program covers the diverse topics required to successfully work under the direction of educators such as classroom or resource teachers. Students learn vital skills and knowledge, including educational ethics, conflict management and special program development for students with physical, learning or emotional needs. The Education Assistant program provides students with essential classroom skills such as team building, leadership and conflict resolution, and pupil observation and assessment. Students in this program will learn about child development,  curriculum support and adaptation, pupil behavioural management as well as the necessary knowledge to help teachers in preparing materials, displays and other supportive activities. Students will also be taught how to assist teachers in implementing Individual Education Programs for students using strategic learning techniques and strategies.

Technology, Networking Programs

  • Bay River College’s one-year Information Technology and Network Administrator diploma program prepares students to confidently tackle the day-to-day responsibilities of managing computer information systems for businesses of any size. Graduates of the program will be prepared to deal with an organization’s need to optimize and maintain their digital and hardware infrastructure. Students in the Information Technology and Network Administrator program receive a working knowledge of Local Area Networks, their application within Wide Area Networks and their inter-connectivity to nodes, servers, and other end-user devices. Students will also become familiar with web server management and its connectivity to local networks. Students can expect to learn a variety of essential IT skills, including managing system and client software, web page integration and creation, network security measures, user accounting and monitoring network event logs for problem resolution.
  • Bay River College’s two-year Cyber Security and Cloud Computing diploma program prepares students to confidently tackle the day-to-day responsibilities of a cyber security and cloud computing specialist. In this program, students gain the experience needed to monitor and maintain the security of an organization’s network. Students receive a working knowledge of the principles of cyber security, Linux operating systems, virtual networks such as Microsoft Azure and VM Ware, cloud networking technologies, Cisco Networking and Security, and SQL database management.
