    What is a Health Care Aide?

    As a Health Care Aide, you’ll have the rewarding job of caring for patients and improving the quality of life for people who are ill or disabled. It’s an extremely fulfilling line of work for anyone with a nurturing personality. Health Care Aides can work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, doctor’s offices, long-term care facilities, and other medical locations.

  • Become a Certified Medical Lab Assistant through Calgary’s ABES

    In partnership with Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS), this full-time program prepares graduates for work in hospitals, patient service centers, and clinical laboratories. Alberta Business & Educational Services’ (ABES) Medical Lab Assistant course will help you become fully qualified.

    Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS) Partnership

    In 2004, CLS approached Alberta Business & Educational Services (ABES), and requested we run the Medical Lab Assistant program in Calgary in order to solve a shortage of MLAs in the industry. As a result of successfully addressing their issues, we have remained partners ever since. This relationship has been very advantageous for our students, because it allows our program to grow with the times, and to develop the most current techniques and skillsets necessary for success in the field.

  • Join the Medical Device Reprocessing Program at ABES, Calgary

    Our Medical Device Reprocessing Program has recently undergone a name change; it was formerly called the Sterile Processing Technician program. This 40-week program runs in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS). The Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program is designed to provide students with the necessary technical skills, employment preparation skills, as well as all other practical and essential skills necessary for working in the field. Students must have 2 years Post-Secondary training in Health Care or Life Sciences to qualify for admission.

    What is a Community Support Worker?

    Community Support Workers help people deal with personal and social problems. They teach related skills and provide information and support. Community Support Workers strive to improve the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of vulnerable adults, children, youth and families.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) provides Alberta Business & Educational Services (ABES) with many resources, including a training environment for Sunrise Clinical Management (SCM), a software program used by all patient care units in Calgary hospitals.

Alberta Business & Educational Services (ABES) was incorporated March 28, 1991. Since then, we have provided an educational environment in Calgary that gives adult learners the training and support needed to enter the workforce. ABES has provided training in more than 50 program areas during our 20+ years of operation, and currently offers a variety of health care and medical school training programs.
