HVAC/R Technician

About the Program

NTI's HVAC/R Technician program gets you into the skilled trades in just 30 weeks, with new classes starting every 10 weeks and flexible schedules available. You'll split your time between the classroom and fully equipped shops in Scarborough and Bangor, solving the real heating, cooling, and refrigeration problems technicians see in the field—and graduate with a Career Diploma and multiple national certifications. The program qualifies for federal financial aid, and NTI's Financial Aid Office helps you find grants, loans, and scholarships.

What You'll Learn

Installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial HVAC/R systems, including electrical wiring and safety standards
National certification prep, including EPA 608, NORA oil-heat certifications, and introductory and advanced propane and natural gas
Hands-on shop training with standard tools and real HVAC/R units, taught by industry pros
Career readiness through 1-on-1 job placement assistance and direct connections to Maine energy employers

Roles: HVAC/R Technician in residential, commercial, and industrial settings—or self-employment—earning $39,100–$91,000 annually (BLS, May 2024)

Why it matters: Every building needs temperature control, and HVAC employment is projected to grow 8% through 2034. NTI graduates have been hired by Dead River, Downeast Energy, and energy companies across Maine.
