About the Program

Barbering at Modern College is offered within the Hairstyling diploma program (under 1 year) because Ontario does not recognize barbering as a standalone licensed trade. This comprehensive training leads to full-spectrum hairstylist licensure, qualifying you equally for barbering or hairstylist positions. You'll master barbering techniques including clippers, scissors, men's cuts, and facial grooming while gaining complete hairstyling expertise in Modern College's accelerated program with real salon experience.

What You'll Learn

• Barbering techniques and men's grooming - Using clippers and scissors for variety of men's cuts, fades (low, medium, high), beard and moustache shaping, cleaning hairlines, basic men's facial grooming, and contemporary barbering trends
• Complete hairstyling competencies - Hair cutting for all genders, hair coloring and highlighting, styling techniques, chemical treatments, scalp and hair care with professional products including Goldwell partnerships
• Client service and business skills - Professional communication, customer relationship building, salon and barbershop operations, creative expression, and industry connections preparing you for diverse career paths
• Real client experience and licensure pathway - Work with clients and models in Modern College's clinic floor open 5/5 days (versus 1/5 at many community colleges), complete training leading to Ontario hairstylist licensure at North Bay, Sudbury, or Barrie campuses
