About the Program

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate program prepares you for a rewarding healthcare career providing vital care to individuals who need assistance with daily activities—the elderly, those recovering from illness, and individuals with disabilities. In 29 weeks including a 300-hour clinical placement, you'll gain comprehensive training through hybrid delivery (online and in-person learning) to meet Canada's rapidly growing demand for compassionate PSWs in hospitals, long-term care facilities, retirement homes, and home care settings. Graduates write the NACC (National Association of Career Colleges) final examination and are ready to make a direct, meaningful impact on people's lives every day.

What You'll Learn

  • Personal Care & Daily Living Support - Master assisting with personal hygiene, mobility and safety techniques, household management, nutrition and hydration, medication assistance, and maintaining client dignity and independence
  • Health Conditions & Specialized Care - Develop expertise in body systems, health conditions, cognitive and mental health issues, brain injuries, dementia care using Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA®), and assisting dying persons with compassionate end-of-life care
  • Clinical Skills & Documentation - Gain proficiency in care planning, restorative care techniques, accurate documentation, recognizing and responding to abuse and neglect, infection control, and applying evidence-based practices
  • Professional Practice & Safety - Complete First Aid/CPR certification, learn growth and development across lifespan, family support strategies, AODA and OH&S workplace safety, and professional communication skills
