As a Community Service Worker, you can work on the frontline, helping clients manage their social and personal problems and running community services. Or, you can work ‘behind the scenes’ setting up and managing social assistance programs. Whatever your role is, the overarching goal is to build capacity, empower vulnerable communities, and help others work towards health and wellness.

Become Qualified in Community Service Work

Oxford College’s Community Service Worker program gives you the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to create, implement, and oversee a variety of social and community-based programs. Our program combines classroom learning and practical training to prepare you to better serve the community.

During the Community Service Worker program, you’ll learn how to:

  • Become helping professionals in human services
  • Utilize community resources
  • Understand issues of diversity
  • Work with high-risk populations
  • Work with addiction and mental health issues
  • Manage dynamics within families
  • Build communication techniques and processes
  • Develop non-violent crisis intervention skills
  • Perform first aid and CPR
