Business, Accounting, Marketing Programs

  • The Medical Office Assistant program prepares students in key aspects of health administration. Students will begin by cultivating a strong foundation of administrative, word processing and office support skills before focusing on developing the skills required to fulfill the administrative requirements expected in a medical or other health care administrative setting.

    Main Duties

    Medical Office Assistants perform some or all of the following duties:

    • Schedule and confirm medical appointments and receive and communicate messages for medical staff and patients
    • Prepare, key in, edit, and proofread medical records, reports, articles, case histories and correspondence from machine dictation, shorthand and handwritten notes using computers
    • Interview patients in order to complete forms, documents and case histories
    • Complete insurance and other claim forms
    • Initiate and maintain confidential medical files and records
    • Prepare financial statements and billing procedures
    • Order supplies and maintain inventory
    • Determine and establish office procedures and routines
    • May supervise and train other staff in procedures and in use of current software.
  • The Advanced Business Management program prepares students to oversee and coordinate a variety of office administration duties, while teaching them to review, evaluate and implement new policies and procedures. Students will learn to establish and delegate work priorities to support staff, establish time management skills, and become experts in the preparation of operation budgets and the maintenance of inventory and budgetary controls. Students will gain progressive skills in effective project management, business planning, small business / entrepreneurship, and international commerce.

    Main Duties

    Administrative officers perform some or all of the following duties:
    • Oversee and co-ordinate office administrative procedures and review, evaluate and implement new procedures
    • Establish work priorities, delegate work to office support staff, and ensure deadlines are met and procedures are followed
    • Carry out administrative activities associated with admissions to post-secondary educational institutions
    • Administer policies and procedures related to the release of records in processing requests under government access to information and privacy legislation
    • Co-ordinate and plan for office services, such as accommodation, relocations, equipment, supplies, forms, disposal of assets, parking, maintenance and security services
    • Assist in preparation of operating budget and maintain inventory and budgetary controls
    • Assemble data and prepare periodic and special reports, manuals and correspondence.

Healthcare, Wellness, Pharma Programs

  • Do you enjoy caring for others and want to put your compassion to work? The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program has been developed to provide standardized training and an educational base for workers who provide long-term care and support services in both institutional and community settings. At the conclusion of the program, students will write the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) exam to become certified PSWs. This program includes classroom-based studies and on-the-job training through placements at a variety of care facilities.

    Main Duties

    Visiting Personal Support Worker perform some or all of the following duties:
    • Care for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence or family disruption
    • Administer bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing
    • Plan and prepare meals and special diets, and feed or assist in feeding clients
    • Demonstrate infant care to new parents
    • May perform routine health-related duties such as changing non-sterile dressings, administering medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of home care agency supervisor or nurse
    • May perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes and making beds.

Human & Social Services, CSW Programs

  • The Community Services Worker program has been designed to provide graduates with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to administer and implement a variety of social and community-based service programs. Students will cultivate the knowledge and skills necessary for client assessment and support, and evaluating effectiveness of client treatment.

    This program includes classroom-based studies and on-the-job training through placements at a variety of social service agencies.

    Main Duties

    Community Services Workers perform some or all of the following duties:

    • Interview clients to obtain case history and background information
    • Assess clients’ relevant skill strengths and deficits
    • Assist clients to sort out options and develop plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance
    • Assist clients in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, assistance with moves, day care and other referral services
    • Prepare intake reports
    • Counsel clients living in group homes and half-way houses, supervise their activities and assist in pre-release and release planning
    • Participate in the selection and admission of clients to appropriate programs
    • Assess and investigate eligibility for social benefits
    • Meet with clients to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems
    • Refer clients to other social services
    • Advise and aid recipients of social assistance and pensions
    • Provide crisis intervention and emergency shelter services
    • Implement and organize the delivery of specific services within the community
    • Implement life skills workshops, substance abuse treatment programs, behaviour management programs, youth services programs and other community and social service programs under the supervision of social services or health care professionals
    • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs by tracking clients’ behavioural changes and responses to interventions
    • Maintain contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients’ overall progress
    • Co-ordinate the volunteer activities of human service agencies, health care facilities and arts and sports organizations
    • Maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research.
    • May supervise social service support workers and volunteers.

Legal, Policing Programs

  • Law And Security

    Do you want to make a difference and serve your community? The Law and Security program provides students with the foundation, knowledge and basic skills needed for successful employment in the field of policing.

    Students are required to complete 100 hours of community service to supplement their educational experience.

    Main Duties

    • Patrol assigned areas to maintain public safety and order and to enforce laws and regulations
    • Investigate crimes and accidents, secure evidence, interview witnesses, compile notes and reports and provide
    • Testimony in courts of law.
    • Arrest criminal suspects.
    • Provide emergency assistance to victims of accidents, crimes and natural disasters.
    • Participate in crime prevention, public information and safety programs.
    • May supervise and coordinate the work of other police officers.
    • Security guards control access to establishments, operate security control-room equipment and patrol assigned areas to guard against theft, vandalism and fire, enforce regulations to maintain order and resolve conflicts and to monitor establishment activities; ensure safety and emergency procedures are followed; issue passes and direct visitors to appropriate areas, check age identification of patrons, and perform security checks of passengers and luggage at airports.
