    As the population continues to age, the healthcare industry is facing a growing shortage of well-trained personnel. Throughout the North American healthcare industry, there is a need to increase the size and skill of the workforce.

    Successful graduates will achieve the Certified Medical Assisting Professional (CMAP) designation in addition to their diploma. These graduates are fully qualified to work in a hands-on administrative and clinical support capacity in the medical industry. This program is designed to provide our students with the medical, clerical, and communication skills necessary to start a career as a member of the health care team in a medical or dental office.

    During the program students learn to understand and use medical language; perform doctors’ general office procedures, prepare medical records, reports, case histories, correspondence and machine dictation; schedule and confirm medical appointments; receive and communicate messages for doctors and patients; initiate and maintain confidential medical files and records; prepare financial statements and handle billing procedures including medical billing, insurance, and other claim forms; promote safety and work safely; order supplies and maintain inventory; plan and initiate procedural set-ups including those required for patient preparation and maintenance for supplies and equipment; perform simple diagnostic procedures such as vital signs; and collect patient specimens as required.

    What is Food Handling? Food handling is the safe procedures for each process such as receiving, re-packing, food storage, preparation and cooking, cooling and re-heating, displaying products, handling products when serving customers, packaging, cleaning and sanitizing, pest control, transport and delivery. Our Food Handler Certification Course provides an opportunity for food handlers to learn about food safety. Students will learn about public health legislation, as well as the role of the public health inspector, along with food borne illness, safe food handling methods and food premises sanitation. Upon successful completion of the course the student will obtain a food safety certificate.

Healthcare, Wellness, Pharma Programs

    The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program prepares graduates to provide supportive care to individuals across their lifespan by assisting them with their activities of daily living, including clients experiencing cognitive impairment, physical disability, and mental health challenges. The range of services provided by Personal Support Workers depend upon the individual needs of each person they support and may include personal care such as dressing, personal hygiene, mobility and other routine activities of living in accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act, home management such as shopping, light house cleaning and meal preparation, family responsibilities such as routine care giving to children and assisting with social and recreational activities. As front line workers, Personal Support Workers must develop a broad range of abilities beyond dexterity skills.  They must provide not only for the comfort, safety and well-being of their clients, but also demonstrate sensitivity and respect for those in their care.  The attitude, abilities and approach of the PSW are critical to the well-being and health of the people they support.

    What is CPR? Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions often with artificial ventilation in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest. Our First Aid training program has been created to teach students how to provide emergency care for someone in need; this may be at home, the workplace, or in a public place. The training is designed to make the learning process enjoyable and simple while providing a non-stressful training environment so that students may practice and apply emergency lifesaving skills.

    Human Anatomy is the study of the structure of the human body and how the body parts are organized. Anatomy is the study of structure and physiology is the study of functions. Anatomy and Physiology provides students with the terminology and knowledge related to most of the body systems. This course allows students to get a better understanding of the normal structure and function of the human body. Focus will be placed on the hierarchy of structural organization, musculoskeletal, medical terminology cardiovascular, respiratory systems and system relationships. Human Anatomy and Physiology will develop a skill/knowledge level that includes basic care and social service training.  The scope of responsibilities for a Human Anatomy and Physiology Workers is as follows:

    Phlebotomy is the act of drawing or removing blood from the circulatory system through a cut (incision) or puncture in order to obtain a sample for analysis and diagnosis. Phlebotomy is also done as part of the patient’s treatment for certain blood disorders. Phlebotomy is when someone uses a needle to take blood from a vein, usually in your arm. Also called a blood draw or venipuncture, it’s an important tool for diagnosing many medical conditions. Usually the blood is sent to a laboratory for testing. But sometimes the blood is withdrawn as a treatment for certain medical conditions. This is called therapeutic phlebotomy. It removes extra red blood cells, unusually shaped red blood cells, or extra iron in the blood. The objective of the course is to learn the fundamentals of phlebotomy as they relate to patient care. The objective of the Phlebotomy Certificate Program at Futures Canadian College is to learn the fundamentals and essentials of phlebotomy as the procedure relates to patient care. Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
    1. Explain basic anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system.
    2. Define “standard precautions” related with blood collection and handling.
    3. Practice the use of medical terminology relating to the circulatory system.
    4. List methods of client and specimen identification.
    5. List the different colours used to code blood specimens and what they stand for.
    6. Demonstrate how to dispense blood into tubes following syringe collection.
    7. Outline post-puncture care of the client.

Languages, ESL Programs

  • Program Description

    The content in each of the ESL courses is organized into four interrelated strands, or broad areas of learning: Listening and Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Socio-cultural Competence and Media Literacy. Effective instructional activities blend expectations from the four strands in order to provide English language learners with the kinds of experiences that promote meaningful learning and that help students recognize how language and literacy skills in the four strands overlap and strengthen one another. The program at all levels is designed to develop a range of essential skills in the four interrelated strands, built on a solid foundation of knowledge of the language conventions of standard English and incorporating the use of analytical, critical, and metacognitive thinking skills. Students learn best when they are provided with opportunities to monitor and reflect on their learning, and each strand includes expectations that call for such reflection. These courses are designed for English language learners who have had opportunities to develop language and literacy skills in their own language appropriate to their age or grade level. Most English language learners are in this group. These learners may be entering secondary school from elementary school alongside their English-speaking peers, or they may be entering secondary school in Ontario having recently arrived from other countries. They can read and write in their own language within the expected range for students of their age in their own country. They can build on their existing first-language skills when learning English in an ESL program. The five ESL courses are based on levels of proficiency in English. Depending on learners’ previous experience with English, students may be placed in ESL Level 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. For example, a student who has been in full-time education in his or her country of origin but who has never studied English would be placed in ESL Level 1. A student who has been in full-time education in his or her own country and has studied some English might be placed in ESL Level 2 or 3 on the basis of the initial English language.

    Our IELTS Preparation Course will provide you with the skills and strategies you need to excel in the IELTS exam. This course was designed to help students familiarize with the structure of the IELTS and equip them with effective skills and strategies needed to take the exam with confidence. This course also borrows core teaching modules from our ESL Adult Language Program that will give students a deeper grasp on the English language. This course will include several different modules that will help students develop a better understanding of the Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking segments of the IELTS exam. Students will learn more about reading and responding to academic texts, comprehending a variety of lingual audios and recordings, producing written paragraphs and essays, given spoken responses to discussion questions and employing strategies for approaching and retaining new vocabulary.

Futures Canadian College of Business, Health and Technology formerly Futures Academy of Health was founded in 2009 in Toronto, Ontario.

Acquired by Maria Onilla in 2017 tripling our student capacity and classrooms. The ability to have multiple classrooms and offering students smaller class sizes is a great advantage with various student and their learning curves. We want to ensure that our students will get the most out of their experience through our programs.

Approved and accepted in November 2018 by the International Student Program, Futures Canadian College is now a Designated Learning Institute.
